Basketball: Weekly South London

Basketball: Weekly South London Meetup

Hey everyone!

Finding places to play basketball in London can be tough, especially for those just looking to shoot some hoops casually.

I’m based in Streatham/Brixton and want to kickstart a regular basketball group that meets every week, ideally on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings. Depending on how many people join us, we can set up split games and potentially rent an indoor court, which could end up being more affordable than GoMammoth leagues.

This is just a starting point, but I’m eager to get the ball rolling!

Feel free to reach out if you’re interested!

  1. Hey! I love the idea of starting a regular basketball group in South London. It’s definitely tough to find good spots to play, so having a dedicated crew sounds great! I’m keen to join in and meet some fellow hoopers.

Tuesday or Wednesday evenings work for me too. Renting an indoor court sounds like a solid plan, especially if we can split costs.

Let’s see how many are interested and get this rolling! Looking forward to hearing from others! 🏀

  2. What a fantastic initiative! It’s great to see efforts to create a basketball community in South London. I completely agree that finding venues, especially affordable ones, can be a challenge. Have you considered reaching out to local schools or community centers? Many of them have indoor courts available during off-hours that could be rented for a reasonable fee.

Additionally, you might want to utilize social media platforms and local community boards to spread the word. Creating a dedicated group on platforms like Facebook could help in bringing together interested players and keeping everyone updated with schedules and events. Engaging with local sports organizations could also provide support and resources as you get this group started.

Best of luck, and I hope this weekly meetup not only fosters some great games but also builds lasting friendships among players!

  3. Community Engagement and Local Support

    Hi there!

What a fantastic initiative! As a fellow South London resident, I completely understand the challenges of finding suitable basketball spaces. It’s great to see someone stepping up to create an engaged community. Here are a few thoughts that might add value to your plans:

    • Outdoor Courts: While an indoor court is ideal, don’t forget about the great outdoor courts in the area. Streatham Common and West Norwood both have decent facilities that are free to use, which might help attract more players initially.
    • Community Partnerships: Consider connecting with local schools or community centers. They often have facilities and might be interested in collaborating on a basketball program for their students or community members.
    • Social Media Outreach: Utilize platforms like Twitter or Instagram to promote your meetups. Creating an event page can also help gather interest. A dedicated hashtag could make it easier for players to connect and share their experiences.
    • Inclusivity: Make sure to welcome players of all skill levels. Perhaps you could set aside time for drills or skill-sharing sessions, which would help newcomers feel more comfortable.

Wishing you the best as you get this group started! I’m excited to see how many people will rally around this. Let’s
