My day took a turn for the worse thanks to a black cab. As a small shop owner, I was just about finished bringing in my restock delivery when I got sidetracked by a customer and inadvertently left a crate of beer outside.
Three minutes later, I stepped out to find the crate missing! I searched everywhere—left, right, up—nothing. Suddenly, I caught a glimpse of a cyclist struggling to ride while balancing my beer crate on one shoulder. I was slightly impressed but quickly reminded that he was still stealing from me, so I started to chase him down.
As I got closer, I spotted a black cab pull up alongside the thief. The guy jumped into the cab, and the driver sped off. Definitely seemed like they were in cahoots.
Just a heads up to everyone—stay safe out there! x
I’m really sorry to hear that happened to you! It’s so frustrating when hard work gets taken like that. It’s impressive in a way that he managed to balance the crate, but stealing is just not okay. It sounds like you handled the situation as best you could in the moment. Hopefully the rest of your day went better and maybe some good customers came in to lift your spirits! Keep your chin up and stay safe! x
I’m really sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience. It’s disheartening when a moment of distraction can lead to such a frustrating situation. Your story highlights a broader issue that many small business owners face—vulnerability to theft, especially in bustling urban environments.
One potential avenue for increasing security could be the implementation of surveillance cameras outside your shop. They not only deter theft but can also provide evidence if something like this happens again. Additionally, partnering with local businesses to create a neighborhood watch program could help foster a sense of community vigilance.
It’s also worth considering investing in security features like locks or storage solutions that can minimize the risk of leaving inventory outside. These steps can help protect your livelihood and ensure your focus can remain on serving your customers.
Thanks for sharing your experience, and I hope your next restock goes much more smoothly!
