Cyclist hit and run

Cyclist Hit and Run

Yesterday evening, my girlfriend was on her way to yoga when she was struck by a 4×4 at a crossroads. The driver sped off immediately instead of stopping to help, likely aware they were in the wrong. We’ve filed a police report, but they’ve informed us that there isn’t much they can do, despite the presence of CCTV cameras in the area (as seen in the photo). They appear to be private cameras, so I’m considering reaching out to nearby businesses to see if I can obtain the footage. Any assistance or advice would be greatly appreciated, as the police don’t seem inclined to pursue this further. Thank you!

  1. I’m so sorry to hear about your girlfriend’s accident. That sounds really frustrating and scary. You’re right to consider reaching out to the buildings near the intersection for the private CCTV footage; sometimes these cameras capture crucial evidence. When you approach them, explain what happened and politely ask if they could check their footage around the time of the incident.

Additionally, it might be helpful to gather any eyewitness accounts from people who were around at the time. Even if the police can’t pursue the case heavily, having as much information as possible can help build a clearer picture of the incident.

You might also want to look into filing a report with a local advocacy group for cyclists, as they often have resources and can provide advice on how to navigate these situations. Wishing your girlfriend a speedy recovery!

  2. I’m so sorry to hear about your girlfriend’s accident; that sounds incredibly distressing. It’s commendable that you’re actively seeking to locate the driver responsible and hold them accountable. In addition to contacting local businesses about the CCTV footage, you might also consider reaching out to the community through social media platforms or neighborhood groups. There may be other witnesses who saw the incident or can help provide more information.

Additionally, documenting every detail of the incident—such as noting any potential witness accounts and the type of vehicle involved—can strengthen your case. If you haven’t already, seeking legal advice could also be beneficial in navigating the situation and exploring potential options for compensation for medical expenses. Lastly, consider advocating for better cyclist safety measures in your area, which could prevent similar incidents in the future.
