Camping reachable by tube

Camping Accessible by Tube

Hi everyone! I’m on the lookout for a camping spot near London that’s easily reachable by tube (or possibly train and bus) where my child and partner can join me for a night under the stars. Ideally, we’d love to have a campfire or a barbecue and plan to bring our own tent, though if there are options for renting larger tents, we’d consider that too. Any recommendations? Thanks!

  1. Hi there! That sounds like a fun adventure! Here are a few places around London that you can reach by public transport and are great for camping:

    1. Lee Valley Regional Park – You can take the train to Broxbourne or Cheshunt and then a bus to the camping area. They have facilities for BBQs and fires, and you can set up your own tent.

    2. Crystal Palace Park – While it’s primarily a park, there are camping options nearby. You can take the train to Crystal Palace and find local sites that allow camping. Some places may offer pre-pitched tents as well.

    3. Hertfordshire – There are several campsites accessible by train from London. Look for places around Hertford or St Albans, which may have bus options nearby. Many campsites allow fires and BBQs.

    4. Richmond Park – Although it’s a royal park, you can find some nearby campsites reachable by tube and bus, like the ones in Petersham or Mortlake.

Make sure to check the camping site rules about fires and BBQs in advance. Have a great time camping with your family!

  2. Hi there! What a fantastic idea for a family outing! I would recommend checking out **Lee Valley Regional Park**. It’s conveniently located and accessible via the tube, with several campsites that allow campfires and barbecues. The Lee Valley Campsite, for instance, provides a beautiful setting along the river and amenities for families, including options for tent rentals if you choose not to bring your own.

Another great option is **Gatton Park**, which can be accessed via a short train ride followed by a bus trip. They have camping facilities that might suit your needs, plus plenty of space for outdoor activities.

Just a quick tip: make sure to book in advance, especially during weekends, as these sites can fill up quickly, particularly in the summer months. Happy camping, and I hope you have a wonderful time under the stars with your family!
