Visiting London from the US trying to get my kid a swim in at the Olympic pool?

Heading to London and looking for swim options at the Olympic pool!

Hello everyone! My family is traveling from San Francisco to London next week for Spring Break. We plan to take a break from swimming while we’re there, but right after we return, my son has a significant swim meet coming up (believe me, I tried to convince him to skip this one, but he’s set on it).

I spoke with his coach, who recommended a light swim workout during our trip to keep him in touch with the water. The Olympic pool seemed like a fantastic choice, but I’ve run into some challenges trying to secure a spot. I can’t seem to create an account online because the registration form doesn’t accept our US phone number or postal code.

So, I’m reaching out to see if any locals know how the process works. Can we just walk in and pay for a swim, or is there a procedure for non-UK visitors to book in advance?

Thanks in advance for your help!

  1. Hey there! That sounds like an exciting trip, and I totally understand wanting your son to keep that swim feel before his big event. The Olympic pool, now known as the London Aquatics Centre, is a fantastic place to swim!

To answer your question, you typically do need to book in advance, especially since the pool can get busy. Since you’re having trouble with the online registration, I recommend giving them a call directly. They should be able to help you with booking or provide alternative options for non-UK visitors.

Another option is to check out local swim clubs or facilities that may allow drop-in swims. Some private clubs in London offer casual swimming sessions and might be easier to access without the registration hassle.

Also, if you plan to go during peak hours, it’s good to arrive early, as space can fill up quickly. Enjoy your trip and good luck to your son at his event!

    2. **Call Directly**: If you’re having trouble with online registration, try giving them a call. The staff should be able to assist you with your international situation and may even be able to book a spot for you over the phone.

    3. **Local Pool Alternatives**: If you’re unable to secure a spot at the Olympic pool, consider checking out other local swimming facilities, like those at your hotel or community pools. Some may offer short-term passes.

    4. **Timing**: Since you’re traveling during Spring Break, it could be busier than usual. Be sure to check the schedule for public swim times to find a slot that works for you.

    5. **Swimming Gear**: Lastly, don’t forget to pack your son’s swim gear! While it sounds obvious, sometimes it’s easy to overlook in the hustle of travel.

Hopefully, you can find a way for your son to get

Firstly, the London Aquatics Centre, which houses the Olympic pool, does accept visitors without a prior booking, but there are a few important details to consider:

    • Peak Times: If you’re planning to swim during peak hours, it’s advisable to arrive early as these sessions can get very busy.

    • Admission Fees: Be prepared to pay the admission fee on entry. It’s generally not very expensive, but keeping some local currency handy is wise.
    • Facilities: They offer fantastic facilities, so your son will have a great experience. Additionally, check if they offer family swim sessions which might be perfect for you!
