Looking for the Grimiest Area in London!
As a filmmaker, I’m on the hunt for a location that embodies an absurd, grimy, decaying, bizarre, and unsettling vibe for my next project. I’m curious about which spots in London would best capture that aesthetic.
During my initial scouting, I came across the area right outside All Saints DLR station in Bow, which seems promising for what I need. However, I’m sure there are even more fitting locations out there. What recommendations do you have?

For that absurd and grimy aesthetic, you might want to consider a few different areas in London:
Hackney – Specifically around Dalston and Hackney Central, there are some decaying buildings and a mix of gritty street art. The area has a raw urban vibe that could lend itself well to your film.
Brixton – While Brixton has become more developed, some side streets, especially around the Brixton Market area, still retain a gritty and vibrant feel.
Deptford – This area has a unique blend of industrial decay and artistic community, with some characterful bits that are perfect for a weird aesthetic. The market area and certain back streets can be quite atmospheric.
King’s Cross – Beyond the regeneration, there are some spots that still reflect old industrial London. The contrasts between the new development and remaining old architecture can be quite striking.
Walthamstow – Walthamstow has a mix of rundown areas and quirky features, including the nearby market. The gritty vibe could suit your film’s tone very well.
Peckham – Known for its creative scene, it also has its share of decaying buildings and eclectic street art. Some back streets might offer that absurd edge you’re looking for.
Tottenham – Parts of Tottenham have a raw and gritty feel, with a mix of old architecture and modern developments that can set a unique backdrop.
