Motorbike Storage Inquiry – Twickenham

Hi everyone, hope this is the right place for my post.

I’m a 27-year-old male who bought a 125cc motorbike last August. Unfortunately, I’ve been parking it on the street since I don’t have access to a garage at my rental property. The building management has a strict policy against on-site parking, and there are no designated motorcycle storage options available.

I live in the TW1 area and prefer not to disclose my exact location here for security reasons.

I’m about to pass my motorcycle test and I’m considering upgrading to a larger bike. However, I’m aware that this might significantly raise my insurance costs—potentially tenfold—or make it uninsurable altogether. For context, I paid £4K for third-party insurance for my current bike, which is valued at £5K. I don’t use my bike for deliveries; it’s primarily for commuting outside of London for work and volunteering in central London.

If I upgrade to a more valuable bike, I’d prefer to get comprehensive insurance due to the increased risk of theft.

My question is: does anyone know of a secure parking facility for motorbikes that could help mitigate insurance costs? Alternatively, if anyone in the TW1 area is open to discussing garage space rental or sharing, please let me know. I believe that arranging something like this would need to be handled via direct message. Thank you!

  1. Hi there!

It sounds like you’re in a bit of a tough spot with your motorbike storage situation. Finding a secure place to store your bike can definitely help with insurance costs, so it’s great that you’re looking into options.

For secure storage, you might want to check if any local self-storage facilities offer motorcycle storage. Some companies have dedicated areas for bikes, and they often have security measures in place that can help lower your insurance premiums.

Another option is to look for motorcycle-specific parking solutions in your area. Some cities have secure motorcycle parking lots that are monitored, and they might have reasonable monthly rates.

As for finding someone in TW1 with garage space, consider posting on local community boards or social media groups where people often share resources or seek arrangements like this.

I hope you find a good solution soon, and best of luck with the new bike and your upcoming test!
