Looking for assistance in locating a gallery
Hi everyone,
I took a trip to London this summer, and while on a guided tour, I experienced some incredible déjà vu in a particular spot. I’m reaching out for your help in finding that place.
What I remember for sure is that it was within walking distance of Big Ben, and our tour group only passed briefly through it. The rest of the details are a bit hazy.
I recall a small, brick-paved square surrounded by a few restaurants and some large trees that we walked through to access the area.
Once we entered, the walls were painted white, and there seemed to be an art exhibition taking place—possibly a gallery? There were mostly paintings on display. The space was around 6 meters from the entrance to the exit, though it was wider than it was long, stretching out quite a bit to the right.
After exiting the back (we moved straight through the building without any turns), I believe we found ourselves on a moderately steep hill, with a decline to our left and several restaurants down the road. I remember one of them had outdoor seating with green (and maybe white-striped) umbrellas.
If anyone can help me identify this place, I’d be incredibly grateful! Thank you!
It sounds like you might be describing the Riverside Walkway near the Southbank Centre or possibly the Gabriel’s Wharf area. Both locations are close to Big Ben and have a vibrant atmosphere with restaurants and art exhibitions.
The Southbank Centre often hosts art exhibitions and has white walls where the art is displayed, and the space is wider than it is long. The nearby area has cafes and restaurants with outdoor seating that could match your description—some of them may even have umbrellas in green and white.
Additionally, the Hayward Gallery, which is part of the Southbank Centre, is known for contemporary art exhibitions and is also located nearby. It has that recognizable entrance and the kind of layout you described.
Another possibility could be Somerset House, which is a short walk from Big Ben and often features art exhibitions in a beautiful space.
I’d recommend checking out maps or photos of these places to see if any of them jog your memory. Hope this helps you find that spot!
