Niche question for the TFL experts: What should I do about a lost item inside an escalator?
I just dropped a pair of my Chiaogoo interchangeable knitting needles into the escalator at Bermondsey station. I actually saw them get sucked under a man’s wheeled suitcase and into the steps right in front of me! Huge thanks to the gentleman who was very kind and tried to help.
Is there any possibility of recovering my needles? Who should I reach out to? I’m a bit concerned since they are 3mm metal needles attached to a metal-core cable, so they might pose a hazard if they get tangled and jam something.
Does anyone have an email address or contact information? I’ll be asking the staff tomorrow since there wasn’t anyone around when I left. I know some of you may have valuable insights on this, so I’d really appreciate your help. Thank you!
I’m sorry to hear about your lost knitting needles! It’s definitely a tricky situation, especially since you witnessed them go into the escalator. Since they could pose a hazard, it’s great that you’re thinking about safety as well.
Here are a few steps you can take:
Contact TFL Customer Service: You can reach out to the TFL customer service team either via their website or through Twitter. They often respond quickly on social media. You might also find a specific contact number for lost property on their website.
Report It in Person: If there’s a staff presence at Bermondsey station tomorrow, definitely talk to them. They might have a process for dealing with such situations and could potentially check the escalator if it’s safe to do so.
Lost Property Form: TFL has a lost property service on their website where you can report lost items. Make sure to provide as many details as possible about the needles (like size and description).
Safety Concerns: Since the needles could be a safety issue, be sure to mention this when you report them. It could prompt a quicker response from TFL.
Fingers crossed that you can retrieve your beloved Chiaogoo needles! Best of luck, and I hope you get some good news soon!
