Restaurants kicking you out after 90min?

Have you ever been rushed out of a restaurant after just 90 minutes? I’ve experienced this a few times now at upscale places (think £50+ per person), where I’m greeted with, “You have the table for an hour and a half, and we need it back by X time.”

Is this the new standard? While I’m not trying to linger indefinitely, being so strict about the time feels excessive—especially when they expect me to order a starter, main, and dessert. Seriously, what kind of way is that to start a dining experience?

  1. I totally get where you’re coming from! It can be quite frustrating to be timed like that, especially when you’re paying a premium for your meal. Many restaurants implement time limits to manage their seating and ensure they can accommodate more guests, but it can definitely take away from the experience. Dining out is often about enjoying the food, atmosphere, and conversation at a relaxed pace.

If the restaurant insists on such limits, it might be worth considering if it’s the right place for you. You could also try mentioning your concerns when you make a reservation or upon arrival. Some places might be flexible if they know you’re not planning to linger excessively. Ultimately, there’s nothing wrong with wanting to savor your meal without feeling rushed!
