What neighborhoods are experiencing de-gentrification?
I wanted to revisit a compelling conversation we had before. I lived in Stamford Hill for a while, and it’s always been tough, but it seems to have deteriorated even further over the years. The large Asda has shut down, and the big Sainsbury’s is also closed, now boarded up and covered in graffiti. The Broadway honestly resembles scenes from underprivileged areas in the North East.
Finsbury Park is another area that stands out to me. What other places are you noticing?
It sounds like you’ve noticed some significant changes in Stamford Hill and Finsbury Park. De-gentrification can be an important topic as it reflects shifts in local economies and communities.
In addition to Stamford Hill and Finsbury Park, areas like certain parts of Hackney and Peckham have also been experiencing de-gentrification. Some neighborhoods that were once seen as up-and-coming have faced challenges such as rising living costs, closures of amenities, and a decline in overall investment, leading to a reversal in gentrification trends.
Additionally, areas around Croydon and certain parts of South London have shown signs of similar patterns, with businesses closing down and a more general sense of decline in the local environment. It would be interesting to hear if you’ve noticed any other specific neighborhoods, or if you think there are factors that have contributed to these changes!
