Legal reasons to leave the country – moving house?

Navigating Legalities of Moving Abroad: My Upcoming Move to the U.S.

Hello everyone,

I’m excited to share that I will be making a significant life change by traveling to Mexico this Friday. Following a two-week quarantine period, my plan is to relocate to the United States, where I will be joining my partner, an American citizen, after what feels like an eternity apart.

As I prepare for this journey, I am seeking clarity regarding the current travel regulations. There is a provision that allows for “leaving home” for activities related to the purchase, sale, letting, or rental of residential properties—essentially, moving house. With this in mind, I intend to include this information in my travel declaration as a plausible exemption.

I would appreciate any insights from those who have previously navigated similar situations at the UK border. Specifically, I am curious about the kind of documentation or evidence I might need to prove that this move is permanent rather than a temporary holiday visit. My departure will be from London Heathrow, and it’s crucial for me to ensure a smooth passage for this new chapter in my life.

Thank you for your advice and support!
