Disgusted at what I saw in the One New Change Toilets

A Disturbing Discovery at One New Change Toilets

Earlier this evening, around 6:00 PM, I found myself at One New Change, needing to grab a few items from various shops after work. After making my purchases, I decided to head upstairs to use the restroom near Nando’s. In hindsight, that turned out to be a regrettable decision.

As I approached the restroom, I noticed a group of men loitering in the corridor leading to the toilets. Their glances were unnerving, and my intuition told me to be cautious.

When I entered the men’s restroom, I was met with an unexpectedly crowded scene. Every urinal was occupied, and there was only one vacant stall. Feeling increasingly anxious, I chose the open stall, unzipped, and took care of my business—mindful of the unsettling stares aimed in my direction.

What I witnessed next was truly shocking. Across from the urinals, two men were engaged in a very intimate act, each holding the other’s genitals. Not far away, two other men were doing exactly the same thing. It was astonishing to see four professionally dressed individuals openly engaging in such behavior after a day at work.

Upon conducting a bit of research, I discovered that these restrooms are known as cruising spots, where individuals seek out casual encounters. The group hanging around outside the restroom appeared to be waiting for their turn, which left me feeling uneasy.

While I don’t judge anyone’s sexual orientation or preferences, I am deeply concerned about the appropriateness of such conduct in a public restroom, especially one frequented by families and children. Just as I was leaving, a group of children approached the restroom—a situation that should not be exposed to them.

After witnessing this, I took the step to report the incident to One New Change management, as well as to the authorities.

Correction: In my initial communication, I mistakenly referenced the wrong emergency number. I meant to contact 101, not 111, but the humorous mix-up certainly lightened the moment.

In summary: My visit to the restroom unveiled a startling reality of cruising culture that I was previously unaware of, and it raises important questions about public decency in shared spaces.
