Exploring London’s Hidden Gems: Recommendations for the Missing Boroughs

Hello everyone,

As a lifelong Londoner who has called Lewisham, Southwark, and currently Haringey home, I recently realized that my adventures in the city have only taken me to 28 of its 32 boroughs. There are still a few areas waiting for my exploration, specifically:

  • Hillingdon
  • Havering
  • Barking and Dagenham
  • Bexley

These boroughs, often situated at the city’s edges, have yet to be part of my London experience, which is quite surprising given my years here.

I’m planning to dedicate some days over the upcoming weeks to visit each of these boroughs and dive into what they have to offer. I would greatly appreciate any recommendations for lovely parks, engaging activities, cozy cafes, delightful restaurants, charming pubs, or even intriguing aspects of local history that I should discover. Your insights would mean a lot to me as I explore these lesser-known parts of our vibrant city!

Thank you in advance for your suggestions!

As a fellow Londoner who appreciates the diverse tapestry that our city offers, I think it’s fantastic that you’re planning to explore the lesser-known areas at the edges of London. Hillingdon, Havering, Barking and Dagenham, and Bexley each have unique stories and hidden gems waiting to be discovered.

Here are some suggestions to enrich your journey:

    • Hillingdon: Don’t miss the historic Ruislip Lido, a lovely spot for both relaxation and outdoor activities, and the beautiful Cowley Peachey Urban Farm if you enjoy local agriculture and wildlife.
    • Havering: Upminster Windmill and the nearby Cranham Woods offer a glimpse into the area’s rural past, while Mercury Mall provides modern shopping and dining experiences.
    • Barking and Dagenham: Consider visiting the Eastbrookend Country Park for nature walks, and explore the historic Barking Abbey ruins for a taste of local history.
    • Bexley: The Danson Park is a must-see for its lakeside views and scenic walks, and Hall Place & Gardens offers a lovely blend of historic architecture and beautiful gardens.

Exploring these boroughs will surely uncover some delightful cafes,
