Update and THANK YOU r/Beer! Blue Point Brewing stole my patented bottle opener design and agreed to stop selling it…but didn’t.

Thank You, r/Beer: A Triumph Against Blue Point Brewing

I recently faced a challenging situation that prompted me to turn to the r/Beer community for support. Months ago, I discovered that Blue Point Brewing had replicated my patented bottle opener design, the Bottlehook, without authorization. I felt compelled to share this experience, not only to raise awareness about how a small company was treated, but also to seek solidarity from fellow beer enthusiasts. Little did I know, the response would be overwhelmingly supportive.

I am thrilled to provide an update on this matter: we successfully addressed the situation with Blue Point Brewing. After negotiations, they agreed to cease the production and sale of the counterfeit design, and we received restitution. To make things right, they even sent back all of their unsold stock, along with the casting mold they used to create the Bottlehooks.

Following my initial post, members of the r/Beer community stepped up in ways I could have never anticipated. We received numerous photos of the unauthorized product being sold and distributed, along with updates from individuals close to the brewery. This community-generated evidence proved invaluable in our case. While we were just a dedicated team of two, the support we received was incredible, and we owe a huge thank you to everyone for their encouragement and assistance.

While I can’t confirm my suspicions, it seems that our post caught the attention of Blue Point Brewing. Within a few days of going public with our story, we began communicating with them, leading to the resolution we achieved recently. Now, we are the owners of several hundred pounds of their substandard metal Bottlehooks.

This chapter has come to a close, and I can’t help but feel that the r/Beer community played a pivotal role in our success. Your support has been heartwarming and motivating, and I genuinely wish I could express my gratitude to each of you in person.

Many of you have also requested a discount code for our Bottlehook. I understand the concerns about this being perceived as a marketing tactic; that was never my intention. However, to show my appreciation, I’m offering a discount code, “REDDIT,” for 35% off a Bottlehook on our website. If this isn’t appropriate, please let me know,

  1. Wow, what an inspiring story of perseverance and community power! It’s incredible to see how a dedicated individual, supported by a passionate community, can effect meaningful change even against larger companies. Your approach—leveraging community evidence and open dialogue—sets a great example for intellectual property advocates and small creators alike.

This also highlights the importance of protecting innovative designs through patents and trademarks, but it’s equally reassuring to see that respectful negotiations can lead to positive outcomes. The fact that Blue Point refunded unsold stock and returned molds shows that they recognized the value in resolving the matter amicably.

Thanks for sharing your journey and for demonstrating the strength of collective support. It’s a reminder that thoughtful persistence and community backing can truly make a difference—something we can all appreciate in the world of craft beer and beyond. Congrats on your victory, and I wish you continued success with your Bottlehook!

  2. As a London resident and fellow beer enthusiast, I really appreciate this inspiring story of community support and integrity.

It highlights how passionate communities can stand up against larger corporations and uphold creative rights. In London, where craft brewing is thriving and local artisans are proud of their unique designs, similar situations could arise, emphasizing the importance of protecting innovation.

    • Supporting small creators ensures diversity and originality in the beer accessories market.
    • Community vigilance and sharing evidence, as seen here, are powerful tools for justice.
    • Encouraging transparency and fair practices benefits both consumers and creators across the industry.

This story also reminds us of the value of collaboration and mutual respect within the brewing and accessory communities. Kudos to everyone involved for demonstrating the strength of united support and the significance of protecting unique designs. Cheers to continued innovation and fair play!
