Exploring Greenwich on Foot: A Personal Journey Through Every Bus Route
When I moved to Greenwich earlier this year, I initially believed I had largely scratched the surface of this vibrant borough. However, as time went on, it became clear to me that there was still so much of Greenwich I hadn’t yet discovered. Determined to leave no stone unturned before my departure—and inspired by a fellow explorer I follow on social media—I embarked on a unique challenge: walking every bus route that traverses Greenwich.
This endeavor began as a simple personal goal but grew into a detailed documentation project, which I now share on my dedicated blog, Greenwich Challenge. My motivation was to gain a deeper understanding of the area, uncover hidden gems, and create a comprehensive record of my explorations.
A bit of background: I first started walking bus routes last year, inspired by gabrielleonthego on TikTok. At that time, I managed to document up to route 40 before pausing my efforts. Even so, those early explorations fueled my passion for discovering London on foot. Now, although temporarily based in the Midlands, I plan to return to London by September, eager to explore more boroughs and continue my walking adventures.
Please note that my website is built on WordPress without additional customization, which occasionally introduces minor usability issues—particularly with the search function. If you find it challenging to locate specific routes, I’m considering creating a simplified, manually curated index page with all routes linked in one place. Feel free to let me know if that would be helpful!
To keep fellow explorers updated on my ongoing journey, I offer an email subscription—though these updates originate from WordPress and may sometimes land in spam folders. I hope my blog provides inspiration and entertainment for anyone interested in urban exploration, local history, or simply a love of walking.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my Greenwich adventure. You can follow my journey and explore the routes I’ve documented here: https://thelondonwalkingbus.wordpress.com. Happy exploring!
Greenwich Walking Adventures – A True Inspiration!
I absolutely love hearing about your dedication to exploring Greenwich by foot—it’s a fantastic way to truly connect with the borough’s unique charm and hidden gems. As a fellow London resident, I can attest to how walking offers an unparalleled viewpoint of the city’s diverse neighborhoods.
For those interested in similar adventures, I’d recommend pairing your route explorations with some local history. Greenwich is steeped in maritime history, from the Royal Observatory to Cutty Sark, and walking allows you to experience these landmarks in context, often revealing charming alleyways and lesser-known spots not visible from the bus or tube.
Additionally, if you’re planning to expand your explorations across other boroughs, consider engaging with local walking groups or community-led tours—they can offer insights and access to areas that might be off the typical tourist path.
Lastly, your idea of creating a curated index of routes is excellent. It would not only help fellow explorers navigate your content more easily but also serve as a valuable resource for anyone interested in urban walking adventures around London.
Looking forward to following your continued journey and seeing how your explorations inspire others to see London from a fresh perspective. Keep up the great work!
