Discovering the Magic of Camping in Austria’s Nationalpark Kalkalpen
Recently, I had the pleasure of embarking on my very first camping adventure in the stunning Nationalpark Kalkalpen, Austria, and let me tell you—it was an unforgettable experience!
Our journey began at Windischgarsten train station, where we set off on foot to find the perfect camping spot beside the river at Biwak Steyrsteg. After a long day of hiking, we were delighted to discover this picturesque location—complete with a refreshing opportunity to shower the next day. There’s truly nothing like the feeling of washing off the sweat from your hikes in nature’s own beauty!
As we made our way to our campsite, we encountered a few curious obstacles, including a herd of cows that looked a bit unfriendly. Their watchful eyes made us cautious, but we managed to navigate around them. Once we reached our cozy spot, we were greeted by two playful donkeys whose amusing braying brought smiles to our faces every morning, enhancing our outdoor experience.
Our initial plan was ambitious: to conquer Hoher Nock, the highest peak in the park. However, due to rising temperatures, we opted for a more relaxed hike towards the nearby Großer Größtenberg and Kleiner Größtenberg instead. This decision allowed us to enjoy the beautiful landscapes without overexerting ourselves in the heat.
As the sun set and darkness enveloped the area, the sky transformed into a dazzling tapestry of stars. The sheer beauty of the night sky felt almost magical, a perfect end to our adventurous days.
Camping truly offers an escape into a unique world, allowing you to reconnect with nature and create lasting memories with friends. If you’ve ever considered camping in a captivating location, I can’t recommend Nationalpark Kalkalpen highly enough!
