Planning Our First International Family Trip to the UK: Seeking Your Insights
Hello, dear readers!
As we embark on an exciting journey, our family of three from India is gearing up for our first-ever international adventure to the United Kingdom. We’ll be spending 9-10 days there, starting June 8th, and we couldn’t be more thrilled! This trip marks a special milestone for my wife and our 14-year-old daughter, as it’s their first time visiting the UK. While I had the opportunity to travel for business nearly a decade ago, this time around we’re focused on family discovery and enjoyment.
Our trusted travel agent proposed a classic itinerary featuring the highlights of London and Scotland, which certainly captures our interest. However, we’re also keen to uncover some lesser-known treasures, ensuring a delightful mix of sightseeing, nature, cultural experiences, delectable cuisine, and relaxation. Given we’ll be traveling with our teen, nightlife isn’t our main focus, though we’ll certainly savor a night out or two.
We’ve put together a preliminary itinerary inspired by various blogs and Reddit discussions, but we remain open to fresh ideas! Here’s our current plan:
- June 2–7: I’ll be in the UK for an IT event and client meetings.
- June 7 (Friday): My family will join me in London for a restful evening.
- June 8 & 9 (Saturday and Sunday): We plan to explore iconic attractions. We’re eager for recommendations on how to make the most of our weekend visit!
- June 10 (Monday): A day trip to either Cambridge or Oxford is on the agenda, inspired by our daughter’s aspirations toward higher education at prestigious universities.
- June 11 (Tuesday): We’ll take a train to Edinburgh for two days of exploration.
- June 13 (Thursday): After picking up a rental car, we’ll head to the Isle of Skye for an overnight stay.
- June 14 (Friday): We’ll return to Edinburgh, then catch a train back to London.
- June 14 (evening) & 15 (Saturday): A chance to discover London, including a night out for just my wife and me. We’re open to suggestions here as well!
- June 16 (Sunday): We’ll head back home to India.
