Exploring Greenwich: Is it the Right Choice for Our London Adventure?
As we plan our family trip to London in just a few weeks, we’re excited about our journey, filled with exploration and memorable experiences. Our family, composed of two parents and two tweens, will kick off our adventure with a three-night stay in Kensington, which will serve as our home base for top attractions such as Hyde Park, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Science Museum. We’ve even scheduled a unique experience with science-themed tea at the Ampersand Hotel! Our itinerary also includes a Hop-On, Hop-Off bus for easy travel around the city.
After this initial chapter, we will embark on a short getaway to Paris, before returning to London for an additional two nights. This is where I find myself contemplating a stay in Greenwich. The district seems charming, and I believe it could offer a delightful change of scenery after several days in the bustling urban environment of Kensington.
Our only must-see during those last two days in London is the Tower of London, and possibly a visit to the Sky Garden. The idea of taking the Uber Boat to get there really piques my interest, as it presents an opportunity for yet another unique experience during our trip. Beyond that, I imagine we’ll want to immerse ourselves in the rich history and ambiance of the city, especially as I suspect my family (and I) may feel a bit overwhelmed by museums and landmarks after such a packed itinerary.
However, I’m left wondering if choosing Greenwich is a mistake. While I understand that staying in a more central location would grant us easier access to various attractions, my family prefers a more relaxed pace. We typically shy away from cramming too many activities into our days, as the hustle and bustle can become draining. Plus, I’ve heard wonderful things about the Cutty Sark and the National Maritime Museum, which could prove to be fantastic additions to our itinerary if we’re up for it.
If Greenwich seems less than ideal, I would truly appreciate any recommendations for alternative accommodations. We plan to travel back to London via St. Pancras Station and will be flying out from Heathrow, so ease of access is a priority. Coming from the Pacific Northwest, we are familiar with navigating public transportation and enjoy walking as our primary mode of transit. Additionally, the winter rain and overcast sky typically don’t faze us.
