Concerned About a Stranger at My Garden Gate: Understanding Safety and Prevention
Living in South London, many of us value the peace of mind that comes with knowing our homes are secure. Recently, I experienced a situation that has left me feeling unsettled, and I wanted to share it in hopes of gaining insight and advice from the community.
This afternoon, upon returning home from work, I noticed a man loitering near my property. He appeared to be in his late twenties or early thirties, well-dressed, and standing close to the large side gate that provides access to my garden and backyard. Curious and cautious, I approached him and inquired if I could assist with anything. He responded that he was waiting for someone and soon moved onto the pavement by the road.
I overheard him making a call, and it seemed he mentioned requesting an Uber. The encounter was brief, yet it left me feeling uneasy, leading me to question whether I should be concerned about potential ulterior motives. My initial thoughts were that if someone intended to surveil a property, they might choose a less populated time—yet, here they were at 6 p.m. with more people around.
While I prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt, moderation in caution urges me to consider the possibility that this could be a prelude to something more threatening. Has anyone experienced similar encounters? Do these situations often precede attempted burglaries or other criminal activity? I would appreciate hearing from anyone who can share insights or advice on how to better protect my home.
Additionally, if anyone has suggestions or effective strategies for preventing break-ins or suspicious activity, I am eager to hear them. Ensuring the safety of my home and peace of mind is my priority.
