Exploring Global Cuisines in 2026: A Personal Journey Beyond the Usual
Welcoming the New Year with fresh ambitions and a culinary twist
As we step into 2026, many of us reflect on personal goals and new challenges. For me, this year is about broadening my culinary horizons amid financial constraints, which means no holiday trips or leisure spending—yet, there’s always an opportunity to indulge in something equally enriching: diverse and authentic food experiences.
A Commitment to Culinary Exploration
London, a city renowned for its multicultural tapestry, offers an array of cuisines from around the world. However, despite its rich offerings, I often find myself returning to the familiar favorites. This year, I’ve decided to break that cycle by dedicating myself to trying a different international cuisine each month. It’s not just about eating; it’s about immersing myself in different cultures through their flavors.
My goal is to dine out or order in from a country or cuisine I haven’t yet explored, reserving my visits for authentic restaurants and dishes outside the common European, Indian, or Asian staples. I’ve curated an initial list of diverse eateries and regional delicacies I want to experience—and I welcome suggestions for others to add to this culinary journey.
Monthly International Cuisine Plan
Here’s a snapshot of my planned culinary adventures for 2026:
- Sri Lankan Cuisine at Machan Kitchen, Farringdon
- Caribbean Flavors at Roger’s Kitchen, Camden
- Eritrean Dishes at Mosob, Harrow Road
- Indonesian Specialties at Pinos Warung, Camden
- Texan Classics at Texas Joe’s, Southwark
- Georgian cuisine at Aba-Ra!, Brick Lane
- West African Classics at The Merge, Camberwell
- Venezuelan Foods at Papelón, Farringdon
- Ethiopian Cuisine at Gebeta Ethiopian Kitchen, Hatton Garden
- Scandinavian Fare at Blåbär, Putney
- Azerbaijani Dishes at Land of Fire Restaurant, Caledonian Road
- Szechuan Chinese at 43 Szechuan Kitchen, Vauxhall
- Uyghur Cuisine at Dylan Uyghur Cuisine, TCR
Invitation for Recommendations
This plan is a work in progress, and I’d love to hear your suggestions for other cuisines, restaurants, or dishes I should try. Whether it’s a hidden gem or a well-known spot, I’m eager to discover new flavors and stories behind each dish.
