A Surprise Trip to London: Seeking the Perfect Itinerary

Surprising your loved one with a trip can be an exhilarating experience, especially when it involves a destination as captivating as London. My wife has cherished dreams of exploring England, fueled by her love for the royal family and the magical world of Harry Potter. As someone who shares her enthusiasm for history, I want to create a memorable journey that incorporates her interests and adds a few historical gems that intrigue me.

The Plan

I’m arranging a delightful adventure that includes four days in London and a couple of days in Paris. Although my wife’s interest in Paris isn’t echoed in my own, we found an appealing travel package through Costco, which conveniently bundles airfare, accommodations, and even the train fare to Paris. To sweeten the deal, we received a $400 tour credit with Golden Tours, which I plan to use for a visit to Windsor Castle and the fascinating Roman baths.

Must-See Attractions

For her, the must-visit spots are clear: anything related to Harry Potter is a top priority, from the Warner Bros. Studio Tour to potential themed walking tours in London. Additionally, since she adores all things royal, I want to ensure we explore Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace, and maybe even catch the Changing of the Guard ceremony.

I also have a personal desire to experience some of England’s rich Roman history, so incorporating visits to sites like the British Museum or the ruins of the Roman amphitheater in London would be fantastic.

Challenges with Planning

Given that this is a surprise, I find myself in a bit of a conundrum. I can’t directly ask her what she would like to see, which makes the planning process a bit tricky. Although I dream of venturing to the English countryside, such as Bodiam Castle, I’m aware that we may have limited time to explore anything beyond the main attractions in London during our stay.

Timing is Everything
