To the woman near Liverpool St

To the incredible woman near Liverpool Street,

On February 26th, my mother and I were in a side street close to Liverpool Street Station, preparing to catch a train to Stansted for a few days to visit family in Germany. My mum, who is 86, is originally from Scotland but spent her early years in Berlin before studying in Dundee.

As we made our way to the station, my mum stumbled and fell. She sat on the ground for a moment, then laughed it off, feeling a bit embarrassed. A woman approached us, elegantly dressed in a suit and raincoat. She sat down on the pavement beside my mum, introduced herself, and showed us her NHS ID card. She asked my mum a few questions, noting that she hadn’t tripped or slipped. She had my mum squeeze her hands, smile, and raise her eyebrows. Then, she asked another bystander who had brought water to call for an ambulance.

As soon as the ambulance arrived, she quickly departed, mentioning she had a conference to attend and joking that all she would miss was a safety talk.

Later, the doctors informed me that my mum had experienced a stroke. They said that if it hadn’t been for this woman’s intuition and willingness to pause her day for us, the situation could have turned out very differently. I shudder to think that we might have just rested for a moment and then gone on to Stansted.

I sincerely hope this message reaches her so I can express my heartfelt gratitude. She truly is an extraordinary person, and we were incredibly fortunate to have her by our side during that critical moment. God bless you; you were a true angel that day.
