Experience the ARC International Comics Festival in South London – A Free Cultural Event for Comic Enthusiasts
We are excited to announce the inaugural ARC International Comics Festival, an innovative event celebrating contemporary alternative comics, set against the vibrant backdrop of South London. Hosted at Copeland Park, located behind Khan’s Bargains—which has risen from recent adversity like a phoenix—this festival promises a dynamic day filled with art, creativity, and community engagement.
A Platform for Diverse Comic Art
ARC brings together a curated selection of renowned publishers such as PEOW, Hollow Press, The Mansion Press, and Breakdown Press. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore a wide array of contemporary comic styles, from bold visual storytelling to experimental narratives, reflecting the diverse voices in modern graphic literature.
Workshops, Signings, and Special Appearances
The festival features engaging workshops designed for both aspiring and established artists, alongside signings from notable creators. Highlights include appearances by acclaimed cartoonist Tom Gauld, known for his witty and succinct comic work, and insights from renowned filmmaker Ben Wheatley, who also creates comics himself. This blend of talents underscores ARC’s commitment to fostering interdisciplinary artistic exchange.
Exhibitions and Panel Discussions
Beyond the main festival activities, visitors can enjoy an exhibition at AMP Gallery showcasing contemporary comic art. Additionally, a series of panel discussions will be held at The Hub in Camberwell, offering deeper conversations about the state of comic publishing, storytelling, and the future of alternative comics.
A Free Day of Artistic Exploration
Best of all, entry to the festival is free, making it an accessible cultural outing for individuals and families seeking quality art and entertainment. Whether you’re an avid comic reader, a budding creator, or simply interested in exploring new artistic horizons, ARC promises an enriching experience.
