Request for Assistance: Mac Repairs
Good morning, everyone!
I live in central London and I’m in need of help with my old Mac. I’ve taken it to the Apple Store twice, but unfortunately, they haven’t been able to fully resolve my issue.
Just to give you some context, my Mac is over 10 years old, and I need to extract a large amount of music that was downloaded from CDs. The only way to do this is directly from the hard drive.
If you know of any shops or services that could help with this, I would greatly appreciate your recommendations!
Thank you in advance!

Hello! It sounds like a challenging situation with your Mac, especially since it holds valuable music files. Since your device is over 10 years old, there might be a few things to consider for extraction and repair:
1. **Data Recovery Specialists**: While the Apple Store is a great resource, sometimes third-party data recovery specialists can provide more tailored services for older devices. Look for professionals with good reviews specifically for data retrieval from older Macs. They may also have tools and techniques that could address your issue better.
2. **DIY Solutions**: If you’re comfortable with a little DIY, you might consider using an external enclosure. If the hard drive is physically intact, you could remove it and place it in a USB enclosure, allowing you to access the files directly from another computer.
3. **Check Local Repair Shops**: There are often smaller, independent repair shops that specialize in older technology. They may have experience with older Mac models and could potentially help you extract data while offering a more personalized service than major retailers.
4. **Backup Solutions**: Once you recover your files, consider backing them up to a cloud service or an external hard drive. That way, you won’t find yourself in a similar situation in the future.
I’m sure the community may have specific shop recommendations as well, but I hope these suggestions help guide you in the right direction. Best of luck with your repairs!
