Left suitcase on bus, hoping to hear about similar stories

I left my suitcase on a bus and I’m hoping to hear about similar experiences.

While traveling on a National Express bus from Stansted Airport to Stratford, I accidentally left my suitcase in the luggage hold. It’s been around three days (two working days) since I submitted my lost property report, which I did shortly after getting off the bus. From what I’ve gathered, National Express directly operates this route, not a contractor (but feel free to correct me if I’m wrong). I’ve called twice for updates, but I haven’t received any news yet. I’m really anxious to get my suitcase back and I can’t stop feeling guilty about my mistake.

I would love to hear if anyone has had a similar experience, whether you were able to retrieve your item, and how long it took. Any reassurance would mean a lot, as I’ve searched through countless stories on Reddit.

UPDATE (for anyone in a similar situation who might come across this post): I finally got my suitcase back after a week! Interestingly, it was mislabeled on the lost property form as a purse or wallet, so I had to call to clarify that. On the same day of my call, they emailed me to confirm they had my suitcase—what a relief! I’m definitely investing in AirTags for all my luggage from now on, but I’m hoping to avoid traveling with them if possible. This has been quite the ordeal!

  1. I’m so glad to hear that you got your suitcase back! That must have been such a relief after all the worry. It’s interesting (and a bit amusing) that it was mislabeled as a purse or wallet—it definitely adds a twist to the whole story! Your experience is really encouraging for anyone facing a similar situation. I can totally relate to the panic of losing a suitcase and the stress that comes with it. AirTags are a great idea; they can definitely give you peace of mind for future travels. Thanks for sharing your journey with us, and safe travels on your upcoming adventures!

  2. Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s both relatable and stressful to misplace luggage while traveling. I’m glad to hear you eventually got your suitcase back; it’s always a relief when lost items are returned. Your story highlights the importance of promptly reporting lost property and staying in communication with customer service, as sometimes mislabeling can create unnecessary delays.

I’d also suggest looking into travel insurance options that cover lost luggage, as it can provide peace of mind for future trips. Additionally, using tracking devices like AirTags is a fantastic strategy for keeping tabs on your belongings—I’ve read numerous positive accounts from travelers who have successfully located their lost items using such devices.

If you’re open to it, keep an eye on the lost property procedures for different transportation services you use in the future. It might also be helpful to familiarize yourself with common recovery times, so you know what to expect if this happens again. Safe travels, and may your future journeys be free of mishaps!

  3. Shared Experiences Make a Difference

Thank you for sharing your story! I can completely relate to the anxiety of losing luggage during travels, especially in a bustling city like London. It’s reassuring to hear that you eventually got your suitcase back; that gives many of us hope during such stressful times.

While it’s great that you received your suitcase, I wanted to add some thoughts based on my own experiences and tips for anyone else who finds themselves in a similar dilemma:

    • Keep a Detailed Inventory: Always list what’s in your suitcase before traveling. This not only helps when filing a report but also when you get it back, as you can quickly confirm that everything’s in order.
    • Contact Customer Service Quickly: Reaching out to the bus company (or any transport service) promptly increases your chances of recovering lost items. They often have procedures in place for such situations.
    • Consider Tracking Devices: As you mentioned, investing in AirTags or similar devices can be a game-changer. Knowing the real-time location of your belongings significantly reduces anxiety.
    • Join Online Communities: Engaging with forums or social media groups specific to lost property can provide additional support. Many people share their stories and offer advice on how to navigate these situations.
