Are we doomed?

Are we really in trouble?

At the Tesco Hoover Building yesterday, I noticed that every bottle is now locked away in cages. Is an electric fence and a security dog the next logical step?

How did we ever arrive at this situation?

  1. It’s certainly concerning to see such drastic measures being taken to prevent theft, especially at places that should ideally feel welcoming and safe. The trend of heightened security in retail spaces often reflects larger societal issues, including economic challenges and rising shoplifting incidents. It seems to suggest a growing distrust that can be disheartening.

This level of precaution might make shopping feel like an obstacle course, which is not the experience most people want when they go to buy groceries or everyday items. It’s a reminder of how important it is for communities and businesses to address the root causes of crime and work together to create a more supportive environment for everyone. While it might feel like we’re moving backward, there are also opportunities here for dialogue and reform to create more positive solutions. What do you think would help shift this trend?
