In praise of BTP

Celebrating the Efficiency of British Transport Police

Last night, while traveling home, I encountered a disruptive individual on the train. Intoxicated and aggressive, he hurled insults at passengers and dangerously threw beer bottles. Recognizing the need for intervention, I promptly contacted the British Transport Police (BTP) via text message. I provided them with details of the situation, including a description of the individual, the specific train carriage, and our current location.

BTP responded almost immediately, asking for further clarification on the direction in which the train was traveling. Remarkably, within three stops, officers arrived and efficiently escorted the disruptive passenger off the train, hopefully to face appropriate legal action.

About 20 minutes later, I received a follow-up text with a request to fill out a witness form. They even provided a link for me to upload a video I had recorded of the incident. The entire process was incredibly smooth and did not cause any delay to my journey. This experience highlights why passengers should not endure disruptive behavior on public transport.

I encourage everyone to respond to such situations by reaching out to BTP. Rest assured, you’ll play a role in maintaining a safe and pleasant environment for all travelers. If you find yourself in a similar situation, the BTP text number 61016 is an invaluable resource. Despite their website indicating a possible response time of up to 10 days, my experience was quite the opposite, with their rapid response in under a minute.

Your action can make a difference—see something, text them, and let the authorities handle the rest. Let’s work together to ensure a safe and respectful atmosphere for everyone on public transport.
