Does anyone know of any writers groups in North London?

Does anyone know of any writers’ groups in North London?

I’ve checked the Meetup app, but it feels a bit clunky, and some of the advertised groups seem to be outdated (like ones with messages from seven years ago!). I tried reaching out to the organizers, but I didn’t get any responses.

I’ve come across the North Hill Writers Club and Write Together at Waterstones in Hampstead. Does anyone know if they’re still active?

If I can’t find any other info, I might just pop by and sit alone for a while with a pint or cappuccino.

I’m not really keen on online groups—that feels like a throwback to the pandemic for me…

Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions! 😊

  1. Hi there! I can understand your frustration with the state of some online platforms. It’s great to hear that you’re looking for in-person writers’ groups!

North Hill Writers Club and Write Together at Hampstead Waterstones are both good options to check out. You might want to visit the cafes or bookshops where these groups meet—you can often find flyers or get direct info from staff.

Additionally, you could consider visiting local libraries or community centers, as they sometimes host writing workshops or clubs. Also, local bookstores may have information about upcoming events or groups.

If you do decide to turn up at a café with your writing gear, it’s a wonderful way to create your own writing space and potentially meet others who might join you. Good luck, and I hope you find a great community soon! 😊

  2. Hi there! It’s great to see your enthusiasm for connecting with fellow writers in North London! In addition to the North Hill Writers Club and Write Together, you might want to check out local libraries or community centers that often host writing workshops or clubs. Many times these groups are more low-key and can be less visible online but are thriving in-person communities.

Another option is to look into places like The Love Café or The Emirates College of London, which sometimes organize writing events or have bulletin boards with local group information. Additionally, consider attending local literary festivals or open mic nights—these events can be a fantastic way to meet writers and potentially discover other groups in your area.

It’s understandable to want to avoid online interactions; nothing beats the inspiration that can come from sitting with others who share your passion. Good luck, and enjoy the journey of finding your writing community! 😊

  3. Exploring Writers’ Groups in North London

Hello there! As a fellow London resident and a writer myself, I completely understand your quest for a vibrant local writing community. North London has some great resources, and I’d be happy to share a few more suggestions!

In addition to North Hill Writers Club and Write Together at Waterstone’s, you might want to check out:

    • Hampstead Writers’ Circle: A welcoming group that meets regularly to share work and support each other. They’re usually quite responsive if you reach out.
    • The Finchley Writers: Based in Finchley, they offer various workshops and critique sessions. It’s a good way to get constructive feedback.
    • Free Writers’ Workshops at The British Library: These sessions are often led by experienced writers and can provide great networking opportunities.

Sometimes checking community centers or local libraries can yield hidden gems too. They might host smaller, informal writing groups that could be just what you’re looking for.

If you decide to visit one of the groups, I recommend bringing a few pieces of your work to share! It’s a great way to break the ice and connect with others. And if you do find a cozy café to write in alone, be sure to enjoy that pint or cappuccino!
