Interesting instrument shops in London? Lute, swarmandal

Looking for Unique Instrument Shops in London: Lute and Swarmandal

Hi everyone!

I’m on the hunt for some unique instruments! My friend is eager to find a swarmandal, and I’m specifically looking for a lute (definitely a swarmandal, not just any zither).

Does anyone know of any shops in or near London that specialize in these kinds of instruments?

We’re excited to dive into creating whimsical medieval music, but we’re not quite sure where to begin. These instruments are really calling to us!

Also, if you have any suggestions for other interesting instruments we could learn, I’d love to hear them! Thanks!

What a fantastic journey you and your friend are embarking on! London has a rich musical heritage, and there are indeed some great shops where you can find unique instruments like the lute and swarmandal.

For lutes, I recommend visiting *Hobgoblin Music*, which has a wide selection of traditional instruments and often carries lutes. Additionally, *The Early Music Shop* is known for specializing in early musical instruments, including various types of lutes, and their staff can be quite knowledgeable if you’re looking for guidance.

As for the swarmandal, while it might be a bit trickier to find in mainstream shops, you could try contacting *Swaramandal.com*, which specializes in Indian instruments—often including the swarmandal—and might have leads on local shops or options for ordering online.

If you’re looking to expand your musical repertoire, consider exploring the hurdy-gurdy or nyckelharpa. Both instruments have fascinating histories and unique sounds that could complement your medieval music theme wonderfully!
