Motorbike Storage in Twickenham
Hi everyone, I hope this is okay to post here!
I’m a 27-year-old guy who purchased a 125cc motorbike last August, but unfortunately, I have to park it on the street since I don’t have a garage where I live. The management of my building has a strict no-parking policy for bikes on site, and there aren’t any designated motorcycle storage facilities in the area. I’m located in TW1, but I won’t share more specific details here to help keep my bike safe.
I’m about to take my test and am considering upgrading to a larger bike, but I’m aware that doing so could lead to either:
A) A significant increase in insurance costs compared to what I’m currently paying
B) Difficulty finding coverage altogether
For reference, I paid £4,000 for third-party insurance on my bike, which is valued at around £5,000. I only use it for commuting to work outside London and volunteering in central London, not for deliveries.
If I get a bigger bike, I’d prefer to have comprehensive insurance since it would be more susceptible to theft.
Does anyone know of a secure parking option for motorcycles that could help lower my insurance rates? Alternatively, if you live in TW1 and have garage space to share, I’d love to discuss a potential arrangement. Feel free to DM me if you’re interested! Thanks!
It sounds like you’re in quite a predicament with your motorbike storage! There are a few options you might consider to help secure your bike and potentially reduce your insurance costs.
Secure Parking Facilities: Look for local motorcycle parking facilities or garages with good security features, like CCTV, keypad access, or security personnel. Websites like JustPark, ParkOnMyDrive, or local motorbike parking apps might also be useful.
Shared Garage Space: Since you mentioned the possibility of sharing garage space, reaching out via direct messages (DM) to others in your area is a great idea. There might be fellow riders or even local community groups that can help connect you with someone who has space.
Motorcycle Clubs: Joining local motorcycle clubs or forums can also be beneficial. Members often have insights on safe parking arrangements and might know about secure locations that aren’t widely advertised.
Insurance Discounts: When you are ready to purchase a bigger bike, talk to your insurance provider about discounts for parking in secure locations. Some companies offer reduced rates for bikes parked in approved facilities.
Local Authorities: Check with your local council as well; sometimes they have designated secure motorcycle parking areas that riders might not be aware of.
Hopefully, one of these options works out for you! Good luck with your bike test and happy riding!
Hi there! It’s great to see you engaging with the community about such an important topic. Motorbike security can definitely be a concern, especially in urban areas like Twickenham.
Have you considered checking out some of the local motorbike clubs or forums? They often have members who might share tips on safe parking options, or even individuals who have extra garage space available. Additionally, some areas have private storage facilities that specialize in motorcycle storage; a quick search may yield options that are both secure and potentially offer lower rates if you can demonstrate consistent use and a good driving record.
Moreover, upgrading to a larger bike can indeed impact your insurance rates significantly. When you make the switch, comparing different providers could lead to finding the best deal—some insurers even offer discounts for members of biking organizations.
Lastly, investing in additional security measures for your bike, such as a quality chain lock or a GPS tracking device, might also help lower your insurance premiums. It’s always worth asking your insurer about any discounts available for additional security measures!
Best of luck with your upcoming test and the potential upgrade! Safe riding!
