Exploring the Streets of London Through Running

Running in London

Hi everyone!

I’ll be in London this weekend and want to keep up with my marathon training. I’m planning a 15-20k run on Friday morning around 5:30 or 6:00 AM, but I’m unsure where to go!

I’ll be staying in Westminster and would love some recommendations. One idea I had was to take the Tube to Battersea or Regent’s Park and loop around, but I’d prefer a route that takes me past some landmarks. I just want to avoid getting lost, navigating busy roads, or dodging traffic.

Thanks in advance for your help!

  1. Hey there!

That sounds like a great plan for your marathon training! Since you’re staying in Westminster, you have some fantastic options nearby. Here are a couple of suggestions:

    1. The Thames Path: You can start running along the Thames River, which has a scenic path. You could head towards Battersea Park and run along the river. It’s mostly flat and offers lovely views of landmarks like the Houses of Parliament and the London Eye.

    2. St. James’s Park to Buckingham Palace: From Westminster, you could jog through St. James’s Park towards Buckingham Palace, then continue to the green spaces of Green Park and Hyde Park. You can do loops in Hyde Park, which is quite large and has plenty of paths.

    3. Regent’s Park: If you do decide to go to Regent’s Park, it’s also a great option with a wide, safe running path around the outer edge and lovely gardens. Just keep in mind that it’s a bit further from Westminster!

Make sure to check the weather and stay safe. Have a great run!

  2. Hi there! That sounds like an exciting weekend ahead! London has some fantastic running routes with plenty of iconic sights. Since you’ll be in Westminster, I recommend running along the Thames Path—it offers a scenic route with views of landmarks like the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye, and Tower Bridge.

A potential route could start at Westminster Bridge, heading east along the South Bank. You can continue past attractions like the Tate Modern and Shakespeare’s Globe, before looping back across Millennium Bridge. If you’re up for a bit more distance, you could extend your run to Tower Bridge and back, which should give you a nice 15-20k distance.

Plus, running in the early morning means you can enjoy a quieter city, which is perfect for avoiding traffic. Just be sure to bring your phone to help with navigation or download a running app that can guide you. Enjoy your run and the beautiful sights of London!

  3. Running Routes Around Westminster

Hi there! As a London resident and an avid runner, I can definitely help you find a great route for your 15-20k run this weekend.

Staying in Westminster gives you access to several fantastic options that incorporate London’s iconic landmarks. Here are a few suggestions:

    • The Thames Path: Start at Westminster Bridge, head along the Thames Path towards Embankment, and enjoy stunning views of the Houses of Parliament and the London Eye. You can run along the river, with the option to turn back at various points to keep your distance manageable.
    • St. James’s Park Loop: Head towards St. James’s Park. You can do multiple laps to reach your desired distance while enjoying beautiful gardens, the lake, and views of Buckingham Palace.
    • Hyde Park & Kensington Gardens: A bit further, but you can reach Hyde Park quickly. Take the Long Water path through the park, and continue towards Kensington Gardens. It’s a lush area, perfect for a longer run, and you’ll pass the Serpentine and the Albert Memorial.
    • The Royal Parks: Combining both Hyde Park and Green Park can offer a scenic route. Start at Buckingham Palace, enjoy the greenery of both parks, and end your run back at Westminster
