Card skimmed at Gloucester Road tube station

My Oyster card was skimmed at Gloucester Road tube station

Two days ago, I attempted to top up my Oyster card at Gloucester Road tube station. I used one of the machines and entered my PIN, but after a period of processing, the transaction was rejected. I then tried a different machine, and everything went smoothly.

Shortly after, I noticed a £500 cash withdrawal had been made from my account using that same card. I’m feeling overwhelmed and unsure of what steps to take next. I’ve reported the transaction to my bank, and it’s currently under investigation, but this situation feels like a nightmare. Should I reach out to the police? I’m really at a loss here.

  1. I’m really sorry to hear about your experience. It’s understandable to feel anxious in this situation. Since you’ve already disputed the transaction with your bank, that’s a good first step. Here are some additional steps you might consider:

    1. Report to the Police: Yes, it’s a good idea to file a report with the police, especially since a significant amount of money was withdrawn fraudulently. They can provide you with a case number, which can be helpful for your bank.

    2. Document Everything: Keep a record of all related transactions and communications with your bank and any machines you used. Take note of the times and locations, as this information can be crucial.

    3. Contact Your Bank Again: Make sure to keep in touch with your bank regarding the status of your dispute. Ask them about the next steps and any additional measures you should take to protect your account.

    4. Monitor Your Accounts: Keep an eye on your bank account and other accounts for any unauthorized transactions. Consider changing your PINs and passwords to enhance security.

    5. Consider a Fraud Alert: You might want to place a fraud alert on your credit report. This can help prevent further unauthorized activity.

    6. Stay Calm: It’s a lot to deal with, but taking these steps can help you regain control.

Remember, you’re not alone in this. Many people face similar issues, and banks are typically prepared to handle these situations. Hang in there!
