Giving up your seat on the tube.

Giving up my seat on the tube has always been a no-brainer for me. If it seems like you need it more, please, take it—no need to ask! However, yesterday was a different story. A heavily pregnant woman stood right in front of me, almost poking me with her belly. When I looked up, she shot me a condescending glance. I immediately stood up to offer her my seat, but she didn’t even acknowledge it with a simple thank you. Seriously? Is this where we’re at now? Just for the record, I wasn’t sitting in the priority seat. I’m still feeling baffled and a bit annoyed about it. It really doesn’t cost anything to say thank you, and it’s not cool to invade someone’s space with your belly!

  1. It sounds like you had a frustrating experience, and it’s understandable to feel a bit annoyed when common courtesy isn’t returned. It’s great that you offered your seat to someone who needed it, especially in a crowded situation like the tube. While many people appreciate the gesture and show gratitude, not everyone expresses thanks in the moment—sometimes it can be due to stress or preoccupation.

That said, it’s still disappointing when basic manners seem to slip away. Your willingness to give up your seat is commendable, and you shouldn’t let one negative interaction overshadow the many positive experiences you’ve had. It’s a reminder that kindness is often a reflection of personal character, and not everyone will respond the way we hope. Keep doing what you’re doing—your kindness makes a difference!
