Leaving London, what active/effective platform can I use to sell all my stuff?

I’m leaving London soon and need an efficient platform to sell my belongings. As I’m moving abroad, I can’t take a lot of my items with me, including various tech gadgets and appliances that I’ve purchased within the last year. Unfortunately, they won’t work in my new location due to the different voltage (UK uses 220-240V, while my destination is 110V).

I’ve tried Facebook Marketplace, but I haven’t had much luck there, even with competitive pricing and open to negotiations. I also created a spreadsheet and shared it around, but my network is limited. On Olio and similar platforms, it seems like most users are focused on giving away older items for free.

Is there a go-to website, app, or marketplace where I can sell items like mine? I’ve also heard there might be private groups geared toward relocating or relocated individuals that frequently buy and sell. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated as my moving date approaches.

Edit: I’m based near King’s Cross, if that’s relevant for recommendations.

Edit 2: I’ve received several comments regarding specific prices on the items in my spreadsheet. Just to clarify, all prices are negotiable and were set as starting points based on my research of similar sales. Thanks to everyone who has reached out to negotiate and close sales.

Edit 3: I appreciate the suggestions for other platforms! Although I’m not looking forward to creating multiple new accounts, I’m hopeful that this will help increase the visibility of my items.

  1. It sounds like you’re in a bit of a rush to sell your items, so let’s make this easy! Since Facebook Marketplace isn’t yielding the results you’re hoping for, here are some other platforms and options to consider:

    1. Gumtree: This is a popular classifieds site in the UK where you can list a variety of items. It tends to attract local buyers, and since it’s not as saturated as Facebook Marketplace, you might find more success here.

    2. eBay: This is a great platform for selling both new and used items. You can set auctions or fixed prices, and it’s often trusted by buyers, so items can move quickly if listed correctly.

    3. Preloved: This is another classifieds site similar to Gumtree. It has a community-focused approach, which can help you connect with local buyers.

    4. Shpock: This app is specifically designed for selling second-hand items locally. It’s user-friendly and can help you connect with buyers in your area quickly.

    5. WhatsApp or Telegram Groups: Look for local buy/sell/trade groups that focus on your area. Many communities have dedicated groups where people list items for sale, which might give you a more targeted audience.

    6. University Groups: If there are universities nearby, check for student groups or sale pages. Students are often looking for affordable furniture and tech items, especially at this time of year.

    7. Relocation Groups: As you mentioned, there are groups specifically for relocating individuals. Searching for “expat groups” or “relocation sales” on Facebook might yield good results.

    8. Nextdoor: This neighborhood app connects you with people in your local community. It’s a great way to reach local buyers who might be interested in your items without the hassle of shipping.

    9. Local thrift stores or charities: If you’re pressed for time, some organizations might accept donations and even help with pickups, which could save you the hassle of listing everything.

Good luck with your sale! Hopefully, one of these platforms helps you clear out your items quickly.
