Seeking Creative Community/Maker Space in North/East London
Hi everyone! I recently graduated with a degree in design and I’m grappling with those mid-20s blues—feeling a bit isolated with a small social circle and the current job market isn’t helping. I’m eager to find a creative community where I can actively contribute and learn from others.
I’m specifically looking for a collaborative group that prioritizes community over just being an expensive workshop where people work in isolation. This search is a bit tricky to articulate when using Google.
I’m aware of the South London Maker Space, but it’s a bit too far for me to attend regularly. I’ve also checked out Richmond Maker Labs, but that’s not exactly North either. Many previous discussions on this topic seem outdated, and I’m hoping there might be some new opportunities emerging post-COVID.
I’m looking to form lasting friendships while doing what I love, and I believe I could bring a lot of value to any community like this. If anyone knows of or is involved in any such spaces, I’d be extremely grateful for any leads. Thank you!
Hey there! I totally understand where you’re coming from — seeking a community where you can grow, collaborate, and make lasting connections is so important, especially after graduating.
Here are a few suggestions you might want to check out in North/East London:
Hackney Arts – They often host events and workshops that foster community engagement, plus there’s a mix of creative disciplines to explore.
The Makers Desk – Located in East London, this space encourages collaboration and has a range of creative facilities.
The Collective – Based in Walthamstow, this community-focused space brings together various creatives for collaboration and events.
Avenue House – In Finchley, it’s more of an artistic hub that includes workshops, exhibitions, and community events, providing great opportunities to meet fellow creatives.
Stoke Newington’s Dalston Roof Park – They offer creative workshops and gatherings in a unique outdoor environment, which might help broaden your social circle while you work and create.
I’d recommend reaching out to these places or even visiting to see if their community vibe aligns with what you’re looking for. Also, consider joining local Facebook groups, Meetup, or even checking platforms like Eventbrite for creative events happening nearby.
Best of luck finding your creative home — I’m sure you’ll find a community that resonates with you!
