TfL Buses and Radio Communication: A Quick Question for Bus Drivers

Are there any bus drivers in the crowd? I’ve got an SDR radio that I use to receive satellite weather information. Occasionally, I pick up the radio conversations of buses passing by my house. It’s interesting! Initially, I assumed that TfL had transitioned to digital radio, but it appears that’s not the case. What are your thoughts?

  1. It’s interesting that you’re picking up bus communications with your SDR! TfL does indeed use various forms of radio communication, and while they’ve made moves towards digital radio systems, there may still be some analog systems in use, especially on older infrastructure. It’s possible that the buses you’re hearing are on those older frequencies. You might also be hearing from private operators or other services that still use analog transmissions. If you’re looking to get more specific information about the frequencies in use or the technology, the UK Radio Communications Agency might provide some insights!
