Preparing for a Winter Adventure in the UK: What to Expect and Pack

Hello everyone,

I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be landing in London on the morning of January 17th for an exciting journey through the UK! After spending a couple of nights in London, I will be heading north to Manchester on the morning of the 19th, followed by visits to York and the stunning Lake District, before concluding my travels in Scotland.

As a traveler who looks forward to experiencing the beauty of winter, I can’t help but hope for some snowfall along the way. While I know that weather patterns are unpredictable, I couldn’t resist checking out several weather models to get a sense of what to expect during my trip. Here’s what I’ve discovered regarding potential snowfall:

Snowfall Predictions for My Journey

  • London: 3 cm (ECMWF), 20 cm (GFS)
  • Manchester: 10 cm (ECMWF), 1 cm (GFS)
  • York: 7 cm (ECMWF), 1 cm (GFS)
  • Lake District: 8 cm (ECMWF), 1 cm (GFS)

Expected Low Temperatures

According to Windy.com and the ECMWF forecast, the night I’ll spend in Manchester could see temperatures plummet to around -10°C. This is quite a change from the climate back home in Australia!
