I built an app that shows you movie listings from cinemas across London

Discover London’s Cinematic Landscape with the New Qino Cinema Showtimes App

As an avid film enthusiast, I have long appreciated London’s dynamic and diverse cinema scene. Since relocating to the city several years ago, I’ve enjoyed exploring a variety of local theaters, from iconic chain venues to independent cinemas, each offering unique screenings and experiences. However, keeping track of what’s playing across all these venues proved to be a challenge—constantly browsing multiple websites and mailing lists often meant I missed out on some interesting screenings.

Motivated by this frustration, I embarked on developing a solution: an app designed to consolidate showtimes from London’s cinemas into a single, user-friendly platform. The goal was straightforward—make it easier for cinephiles like myself to discover screenings, stay updated on nearby movies, and access ticketing seamlessly.

A Unified Platform for London’s Cinemas

The result is a comprehensive app that aggregates showtimes from both major cinema chains and independent venues across London. Currently supporting all leading chains, the app also features listings from renowned independent cinemas such as Prince Charles Cinema, Close-Up Film Centre, Barbican Cinemas, Kiln Theatre, Arthouse Crouch End, BFI IMAX, and Southbank, among others. I am actively working to include even more independent venues to ensure a complete picture of London’s rich cinematic tapestry.

How It Works

With the app, users can effortlessly browse current movie listings at nearly all local cinemas. It offers personalized notifications for screenings of movies they’re interested in, ensuring they don’t miss out. When a desired screening is available, tickets can be purchased directly through integrated links, opening smoothly within the browser for a hassle-free experience.

Development and Future Plans

After conducting a pilot phase with a small group of testers over the past few months, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. The app has proven to be a valuable tool for staying informed about local screenings, and I am excited to share it publicly.

The app is now available free of charge on the iPhone App Store [link]. My aim is to serve London’s vibrant cinema community and enhance the way cinema lovers engage with their local screenings.

Your Feedback Matters

As I continue to refine and expand the app’s features, I welcome feedback from users. Suggestions on which cinemas to support first or additional functionalities are particularly appreciated. If you’re passionate about London’s cinemas, I invite you to try out the app and share your thoughts.

One suggestion to enhance the app could be integrating a feature for user reviews or ratings, which might help viewers make more informed choices about screenings. Additionally, including filters such as genres, showtimes, or even special events like Q&As and film festivals could make it even more versatile.

It’s also worth exploring partnerships with local cinemas for exclusive promotions or presale ticket access, which could further boost user engagement and support for independent venues.
