As a volunteer-led charity dedicated to transforming a historic Thames Water Depot into a vibrant space for wild swimming, education, and nature appreciation, we recognize the importance of creating a website that truly reflects how you think and navigate information.

Introducing the User Experience Research Initiative

To ensure our new website is intuitive and user-friendly, we are conducting a card sorting study—an effective method in user experience (UX) research that helps inform optimal site structure. This activity involves participants organizing a set of digital “cards,” each representing different pages, features, or informational content intended for the website. Your insights will directly influence how we arrange and label our online information, making it easier for everyone to explore and engage with our community space.

What Is a Card Sorting Study?

A card sorting activity is a straightforward, valuable way to gather user perspectives on website organization. Participants are presented with a collection of 62 digital cards and are asked to:

• Group these cards into categories that make logical sense to them
• Name each group in a way that accurately reflects its contents

There are no right or wrong answers—only your natural instincts and preferences matter.

Participation Details

Completing the activity takes approximately 15 minutes. There is no time pressure, so you may proceed at a pace comfortable for you. The process is simple:

• All instructions are provided on the webpage; no registration is required
• You will see all the cards displayed on one side of the screen
• Drag and drop cards into categories that feel intuitive
• If a card fits into multiple categories, use your best judgment—go with what feels right
• Once finished, click the “Finish sort” button to submit your organization

To assist newcomers, a brief demo video is available that demonstrates the process step-by-step, ensuring you feel confident before beginning.
