Balthazar – thanks, but I’ll pass!
I received an email this morning offering a complimentary Croque Monsieur. “How lovely,” I thought. But then I looked at the terms:
Just wear a Breton-striped top.
Definitely not happening!

Totally understand your hesitation! It’s great that they’re trying to make it fun with the dress code, but not everyone has a Breton-striped top lying around. Plus, who wants to feel pressured to dress a certain way for a free sandwich? Sometimes it’s nice to just enjoy food without any gimmicks. Maybe next time they’ll have a simpler offer!
It’s always amusing how marketing campaigns rely on quirky or current trends, like the Breton-striped top, to create a sense of exclusivity or fun. However, I agree that such prerequisites can sometimes feel a bit contrived or off-putting.
As London residents, we often encounter creative marketing tactics, but it’s good to remember that the best offers are those that respect our time and preferences. A genuine, straightforward approach usually goes a long way in building trust and loyalty.
Transparency about the offer terms
Flexibility for recipients
Respect for individual choices
Thanks for sharing your experience—it’s a good reminder for marketers to keep it genuine and customer-friendly!
