Embracing Improv: A New Community in London
Hello, fellow improv enthusiasts! I’m excited to announce the launch of a vibrant improv community and school in London called LeapDay, which is gearing up to celebrate its first anniversary this June!
At LeapDay, our mission is to foster an atmosphere of playfulness while guiding improvisers to become confident, long-form performers. We believe that the essence of improv lies in embracing the moment rather than getting bogged down by theory. Our focus shifts from intellectual discussions to encouraging genuine behavior and spontaneity in performances.
We offer a diverse range of activities including improv jams, workshops, courses, and even an improv choir! Starting in September, we will be nestled in a fantastic venue right in the heart of the West End, making it easy for everyone to join in on the fun.
A bit about my background: I’ve been passionate about improv for over 15 years and have had the pleasure of teaching at The Free Association for the past eight years. Additionally, I perform a solo improvised show titled “David Elms Describes A Room,” which recently had a successful run at Soho Theatre, selling out all five nights!
I invite you all to explore what LeapDay has to offer and encourage any questions you might have about our community and the experiences we provide. Check out our upcoming events, and I look forward to seeing you there!
Thank you for your support as we build this exciting space for improvisation in London!

As a London resident who has been passionate about improv for many years, I truly appreciate the energy and dedication LeapDay is bringing to our community. The emphasis on spontaneity and genuine behavior aligns perfectly with what makes improv so engaging and empowering.
It’s fantastic to hear about the diverse offerings like jams, workshops, and the unique improv choir — these activities really foster a thriving and inclusive environment for both newcomers and seasoned performers. Being in the West End location will undoubtedly attract a wider audience and help solidify London’s reputation as a hub for innovative performing arts.
For those interested in getting involved, I recommend taking advantage of LeapDay’s events and workshops to build confidence and connect with fellow improvisers. Also, considering London’s vibrant arts scene, integrating improv into performances or local events could further showcase the talent within our city.
