Bike ninja phones thieves are back

Rising Incidents of Bike Ninja Thieves Resurface Near Holborn: Stay Alert and Protect Your Devices

Recently, I observed an unsettling scene near Holborn that underscores the persistent threat of bike-based thefts in our city. While walking along the street, I noticed an individual dressed entirely in black, riding an electric bike—an image often associated with stealthy activity.

Suddenly, a woman nearby let out a scream, prompting me to glance over. I saw the rider deploy a quick maneuver, seemingly discarding a smartphone onto the ground. It’s unclear whether the thief was after a specific model, attempting to steal an unlocked device, or simply discarding it after an unsuccessful attempt. Fortunately, the woman was unharmed and only needed to replace her phone’s screen protector.

This incident serves as a reminder for all of us to remain vigilant. Thieves operating on bikes, often dubbed “bike ninjas,” have been a recurring issue in London. While law enforcement appeared to have made strides in curb these activities last summer, recent sightings suggest they may be making a comeback.

To safeguard yourself, always keep your mobile devices securely stored—preferably in zipped pockets or inside bags. Public awareness and cautious habits are crucial in deterring opportunistic thieves and minimizing the risk of theft.

Stay alert, stay safe, and keep your valuables protected.
