I saw a cyclist run over a dog at Clapham Common and it broke my heart

A Heartfelt Reflection on a Distressing Incident at Clapham Common

This morning at approximately 9 a.m., during a routine walk near the football pitches at Clapham Common, I witnessed a profoundly upsetting incident that has left a lasting impression on me. A cyclist, unfortunately, collided with a dog, causing injury and immense distress.

The scene was difficult to watch. The dog, believed to be a black Labrador, was visibly in pain, crying out and attempting to hold up an injured leg. The owner, who was holding their pet and appearing deeply concerned, was equally distressed by the injury.

While I realise that locating the dog’s owner may be a long shot, I feel compelled to reach out in the hope they might see this and find comfort in knowing others care. The sight of the dog suffering and the owner’s worried response was genuinely heartbreaking and has affected my mood for the day.

If anyone knows the owner of the injured dog or has any information about the incident, I urge you to reach out. Ensuring the well-being of our pets and community members is a collective responsibility, and I hope that, with collective awareness, the owner and their beloved pet can find support during this difficult time.

Let’s all remember to prioritise safety and mindfulness in shared spaces like Clapham Common, ensuring incidents like this are avoided in the future.
